Monarch butterflies liking the California drought

Due to the drought in California gardeners are planting drouggt tolerant plants and it is having a positive effect on the monarch butterfly. They only lay their eggs on milkweed which is one of the drought tolerant plants.

  1. Woohoo California! Yeah the water situation is pretty bad. In the last year or so there've been regulations statewide enacted about when you can water your yard and how much. Everyone's lawns look like sh*t now because they aren't allowed to water more than once or twice a week anymore (I forget which). Some people still do it in secret though, and you can always tell who's breaking the law just by going for a walk haha.

  2. This is awesome that people are helping the monarchs, but the non-native milkweed plants are definitely a concern.
